How to maintain dental hygiene in summer

Summer has arrived and with it the holidays and the change of life. With the arrival of the good weather, we turn our routine upside down and the good habits we have worked on during the winter months can be put at risk.

For example, our dental hygiene. Summer brings dinners and eating out. Sugar and ice cream. That is why we must take care of our teeth and try to follow a series of habits that protect our mouth:

  1. No matter where you are, at the beach or at the pool, it is essential that you always brush your teeth after every meal. And if you don’t have a toothbrush handy, you can chew sugarless gum, drink water or eat cheese. But it’s important to always carry a dental hygiene kit with you: a toothbrush and toothpaste.
  2. Remember to drink plenty of water and eat a diet rich in fruit and vegetables. Why? To avoid problems of dehydration and dry mouth, one of the causes of halitosis.
  3. We know that summer is an invitation to overindulge, but try to avoid overindulging in alcoholic beverages and heavy meals.
  4. Avoid sudden changes in temperature in the mouth and, under no circumstances, chew ice. Excessive consumption of cold drinks and foods can lead to changes in tooth enamel and, as a result, cause tooth sensitivity.
  5. Eat a healthy diet. That is, a balanced diet that includes vegetables, juices and plenty of water. As well as reducing the intake of sugary foods and drinks whose acid levels damage teeth, helps to prevent this type of oral pathology.

From Clinicas Udemax, we invite you to enjoy the summer, but always taking into account the care of your health in general and your oral health in particular.
