WHAT IS A DENTAL NIGHT GUARD? IS IT A DENTAL SPLINT?
The clinical name for this protector is the discharge splint. It is a guard that is mainly worn at night, relieves muscle pain and also protects the teeth.
At Clinicas Udemax, we make, adjust and adapt this splint to the teeth (upper or lower). This splint prevents wear of the occlusal surfaces of the teeth.
In addition, the discharge splint that we offer in our clinic has additional benefits:
- Prevents wear due to teeth grinding in the form of a barrier.
- It helps to distribute the forces, thus protecting the teeth from the effects of bruxism.
- It is useful in restorations, i.e. they increase the durability of crowns, fillings and dental implants.
- It is made entirely by computer, so that it is individually manufactured and above all it fits exactly to the patient.
In the case of fixed prostheses (crowns and dental implants), prevention becomes even more important, as they tend to fracture under excessive forces, or even damage opposing teeth.
Relieving splints help to relax the masticatory muscles by maintaining or restoring the so-called vertical dimension so that TMJ disorders, jaw pain, headaches and other related symptoms can be relieved and resolved.
There are no problems with the use of the mouthguard. When properly fitted under the supervision of one of our dentists there should be no problems.
For a good care of the discharge splint, it should be:
- Clean regularly
- Brush gently before putting it in the mouth.
This reduces the chances of introducing germs into the mouth.
