Dental floss, how to use it?

When we talk about daily dental hygiene, we tend to think exclusively about the use of toothbrushes, both manual and electric. However, interdental hygiene is essential in order to avoid the dreaded cavities.

For this we need dental floss. Why? Because with it we will reach the food retention areas which, if they are not cleaned correctly, will generate bacteria, these bacteria together with the food will cause acidity and acidity will cause caries.

Dental floss keeps the interdental space free of food and bacteria.

But how do you use dental floss correctly?

It’s very simple.

The first thing to do is to take the floss between 30 and 40 cm long, so that we can roll it between our fingers, have greater control over the floss and avoid damaging the soft tissues. Although we have cut about 30 cm, the part of the thread we will work with will be about 5 cm.

Hold the floss tightly between the thumb and forefinger and gently slide it up and down between the teeth. Do the same movement with the curved floss at the base of each tooth, making sure it goes under the gum.

As we move along the teeth, we will use parts of the clean floss. And, to remove it, we will pull it out with the same gentle movements upwards and away from the teeth.

It is very important that you understand that interdental hygiene is fundamental to maintain good gingival health and prevent caries.

At Clinicas Udemax we advise you to do it every day in order to keep your mouth as clean as possible.
