How long to keep your teeth?

In the past teeth were extracted at the slightest inconvenience or reason and millions of people were left toothless, when they could have kept their teeth. In 1997 the emphasis shifted to conservation, and to trying to repair and maintain teeth whatever their condition.

No extremism is good. Sometimes the preservation of certain teeth is not the best solution. Keeping certain teeth in the mouth can impede the treatment of other pathologies, can weaken restorations carried out on other teeth, can cause unpleasant aesthetics and can shorten the duration of other treatments such as gum treatment. Any dental treatment requires an analysis of which teeth should be extracted and which can be restored.

These changes in philosophy are gaining ground at Clinicas Udemax among patients and our professionals thanks to new restorative or prosthetic techniques. Dental implants, for example, have allowed a more radical approach to the treatment of mobile teeth in recent years.

Endodontically treated, i.e. devitalised teeth should not cause any discomfort or sensations. If retreatment is difficult, the patient is usually referred to our maxillofacial surgeon to remove the painful area through the gum.

If it is in an inaccessible area or the infection is already incurable, it is one of the cases of possible dental extraction and abandonment of the failed conservative treatment. At Clinicas Udemax we can replace dental fractures or lack of volume with caps. If there is a strong root that supports a root devitalisation, placement of micropost and fabrication of a dental cap.

When the root is short or the bone that supports it is not consistent, despite the best efforts of a good laboratory work, we will get a bad result in the long term. We should listen to the opinion of our professional at Clinicas Udemax and decide accordingly. Many mouths work better with fewer, well-maintained teeth than other mouths with many moving or painful teeth.
