What is internal teeth whitening?
Internal tooth whitening is a specialised treatment that focuses on lightening teeth that have suffered internal discolouration. This discolouration often occurs due to previous treatments, such as root canals, or trauma that affects the vitality of the tooth. The key difference with external bleaching is that the lightening agent is applied inside the tooth, acting directly on the affected area. This allows for a deeper and more effective whitening, restoring the natural, bright appearance of the tooth.
What is the Internal Whitening Process like?
The first step is to conduct a comprehensive assessment of your oral health to understand the cause of the discolouration and confirm that internal whitening is right for you. After the assessment, we take the current colour tone of your teeth using a specialised scale. This allows us to measure the progress of the treatment and ensure that we achieve the desired tone. We then access the pulp cavity of the tooth, the same area that was treated during the root canal, to prepare the inside of the tooth.
Once we gain access to the inside of the tooth, we remove the sealing material used in the root canal to make room for the bleaching agent. We carefully clean the cavity to ensure that the whitening gel has an optimal effect. We then apply a high quality whitening gel to the inside of the tooth, which will act over a period of 7 days, lightening the shade from the internal structure. This process guarantees a deeper and longer lasting whitening compared to traditional methods.
After one week, we schedule a check-up appointment to assess the condition of the tooth. At this visit, our specialist examines the results obtained and compares the shade of the tooth with the initial shade scale. If the result is satisfactory, we proceed to the next step. If the shade has still not reached the desired level, we repeat the procedure with the whitening gel as recommended by our specialist. This step ensures that you get an optimal and uniform result.
Once the desired shade has been achieved, we proceed to definitively seal and reconstruct the tooth to ensure its protection. We use high quality materials that restore the function and aesthetics of the tooth. Finally, we take “before” and “after” photographs to document the success of the treatment and to show you the result obtained. This final step concludes the procedure, allowing you to enjoy a brighter, more natural smile.
