Tips for taking care of children’s oral health

Many parents, especially new parents, worry about what to look out for when caring for their children’s health. What to pay attention to, how to do it and when to do it.

For example, when should we take our children to the dentist, should they brush their teeth, what should we do if they have cavities? And a long etcetera that can be endless and tormenting if no one helps us to solve it.

From Udemax Group we want to lend you a hand and give you a series of tips so that your little ones have healthy and clean mouths.

Tips and recommendations to take care of the oral health of the youngest members of the household:

  1. Take your child to the dentist at an early age: unless the child suffers trauma in a fall or parents or teachers discover a ‘suspicious’ spot in the mouth, we recommend that the first visit should be around the age of 3.
  2. Teeth should be brushed even before the first tooth appears: it is recommended that parents wipe the gum rims with a damp gauze pad a couple of times a day. What we are looking for are clean and healthy gums for when the first tooth appears. Brushing should start as soon as the first tooth appears.
  3. Help your children to brush their teeth: until they get the hang of the toothbrush it is very important that an adult helps them to make circles and reach all areas of the mouth. Even when they become more proficient, it is very important for parents to go over each brushing.
  4. Sweets cause tooth decay: in addition to the large amount of sugar they contain, the sticky substance on the tooth is a breeding ground for cavities. Remember to brush your teeth after each snack.
  5. Take your children to the dentist every 6 months: a six-monthly check-up is more than enough. However, if the little ones have had several episodes of caries previously, we will reduce the frequency to 4 months until the situation is regularised.
  6. The dentist is not a punishment but a reward: It is quite normal for children to be afraid of the dentist, but parents have a very important role to play in eliminating the fear of the dentist’s office. It should never be treated as a punishment or a threat but as a reward. As for us, at ARCDENTAL we know the importance of carefully explaining the whole process before doing anything. Teach everything we will use, explain it and, finally, do it.

We are absolutely sure that you will do great. However, if you have any doubts, Clinicas Udemax are here to help you.

We encourage you to come and see us and we will explain everything you need.
