Dr. Emilio Martínez-Almoyna Rullán

Dr Emilio Martínez-Almoyna discovered his passion for surgery as a child, alongside the nuns and nurses at Son Dureta Hospital, where his father was a general surgeon and traumatologist.

He graduated in Medicine in Barcelona in 1971, the year in which medical subspecialties began. Within the field of surgery, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery was emerging with the creation of the European Society. This caught his attention, and he decided to study Stomatology in Barcelona and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in Barcelona and London, where he prepared his Doctorate in Cryosurgery of the Oral Cavity. Dr Emilio Martínez-Almoya obtained a position as Assistant Physician at the Son Dureta Hospital through competitive examination and in 1978, when the Speciality of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery was created, he became the first Specialist registered with the Official College of Physicians of the Balearic Islands. After obtaining his doctorate cum laude in Barcelona, he founded the EMAR Dental Clinic and performed thousands of surgeries in all the clinics in Palma. In 2000, with his children Emilio and Cristina finishing their studies, he acquired several offices in Consultas Externas de Miramar and created the first dental clinic (UDEMAX) in a hospital setting in Mallorca.
