Dr Emilio Martínez-Almoyna Rullán discovered his vocation for surgery at a very young age at the Son Dureta Hospital in Palma de Mallorca, where his father practised as a general surgeon and orthopaedic surgeon. His early exposure to the hospital environment sparked his interest in medicine and, in particular, in surgery.
He graduated with a degree in Medicine in Barcelona in 1971, at a time when the first medical sub-specialities were beginning to emerge. Within the field of surgery, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery was emerging, with the creation of the European Society for the speciality, which sparked his interest in this field.
He then decided to complete his training with studies in Stomatology in Barcelona and to specialise in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in Barcelona and London, where he prepared his doctoral thesis on cryotherapy applied to the oral cavity.
Throughout his professional career, he has been intensely involved in clinical and surgical work, becoming a pioneering figure in oral and maxillofacial surgery in the Balearic Islands. He was the first specialist in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery to be registered with the Balearic Islands Medical Association following the official establishment of the speciality in 1978.

Career history
- Dr Emilio Martínez-Almoyna Rullán secured a post as a Junior Doctor at Son Dureta Hospital through a competitive examination, where he carried out much of his surgical work.
- In 1978, with the official establishment of the specialism of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, he became the first registered specialist in this discipline in the Balearic Islands.
- He subsequently founded the Emardental Dental Clinic, from where he carried out extensive clinical work, performing thousands of surgical procedures and dental treatments at various clinics in Palma de Mallorca.
- In 2000, coinciding with the professional entry of his children Emilio and Cristina into the practice, he acquired several consultation rooms in the Outpatient Department of Miramar Hospital, where he established the first Udemax dental clinic, creating one of the first models of a dental clinic integrated into a hospital setting in Mallorca.
