Why are dentures necessary?

Many of our patients at Clinicas Udemax ask us what exactly dentures are, and if they are necessary for their dentures. These are a repair through a false tool that simulates the tooth when it has been lost. They are made of acrylic and resin materials, special plastics and sometimes light metals.

Natural teeth can be lost for a variety of reasons, whether through injury, decay, gum disease or other dental health problems.

When one or more teeth are missing, the adjacent and opposing teeth tend to move into the space left free, causing all kinds of imbalances in the dental arches. There is also the disappearance of the alveolar bone by absorption by the body.

To minimise the negative effects of tooth loss, as well as to recover masticatory, aesthetic and phonetic functions, at Clinicas Udemax we explain what dental prostheses consist of.

A dental prosthesis is made to replace one or more teeth, until the entire set of teeth is complete. Depending on the needs of each client there is a specific type of prosthesis recommended, or several types of prosthesis possible. Our aim is to help you determine the best prosthesis for your case.

Dental prostheses

There are basically two types of dental prostheses. On the one hand, removable dental prostheses and on the other hand, fixed dental prostheses.

Removable dental prostheses are when the patient can remove and replace the denture whenever he or she wishes. However, it is the most common, especially in older people. They are also known as dentures, which during the day allow the patient to live life as a normal mouth with its chewing, aesthetic and speech functions; and at night they are removed from the mouth to facilitate cleaning.

At Clinicas Udemax we design the dental prosthesis based on the characteristics and needs of the person, as it must adapt perfectly to the tissues and jaws so that it does not move or detach from the gum. This type of prosthesis requires a period of adaptation, as well as education in its use, care and daily cleaning.

On the other hand, the fixed dental prosthesis, also known as definitive, is carried out through the prior placement of implants that are fixed to the maxillary bone and on which the new denture is subsequently screwed or fixed, recovering all the functionality of a normal denture.

Once you have your dental prosthesis and it starts to become part of your daily life, it is important to continue visiting our Clinicas Udemax periodically to ensure the proper functioning of the prosthesis and correct oral health.
