Cancer and Periodontal Disease

Oral ill health and pancreatic cancer.

cancer pancreasA recent Harvard University study has concluded that men with a history of gum disease may be at increased risk of developing pancreatic cancer.

After assessing factors such as age, smoking, diabetes, obesity, diet and other possible contributing conditions for pancreatic cancer, the researchers found that men with a history of periodontitis, or gingivitis, had a 64% higher risk of pancreatic cancer.

In light of this study, the ADA (American Dental Association) points out the role diabetes plays in these findings as it is strongly linked to both pancreatic cancer and periodontal disease.

At Clinicas Udemax, we recommend our patients to take care and maintain their gums. The benefit achieved in the short term is ensuring a future benefit for the rest of your body.
