Fixed prostheses (crowns) on implants

The crown (or cap) is a type of fixed dental implant intended to replace the shape, function and appearance of a damaged tooth; it improves aesthetics, chewing and prevents possible movement of neighbouring teeth.

It is usually a total porcelain covering, thus simulating the coronary anatomy, or it can have a core of another material, such as titanium or zirconium, to give it more solidity.

The titanium implant consists of small pieces that are implanted in the jawbone, replacing the natural roots that have been lost. Both material and shape are biocompatible and fully integrated into the bone.

Zirconium crowns are one of the most advantageous novelties in dental aesthetics, as their translucent appearance is very similar to that of natural teeth and they are gradually replacing traditional porcelain or metal-porcelain crowns. Zirconium crowns can also be used to correct other defects such as teeth that are too small or irregular, dark colour and any other aesthetic problem.

They are created using CAD-CAM technology, a process by which dental restorations are designed and fabricated with the help of a computer. CAD-CAM technology, together with zirconium, gives much more precise, aesthetic and faster results than classic prostheses.

Once fitted, make sure the area is well brushed immediately after meals, as well as flossing to prevent bacterial growth and gum disease. In addition, you should avoid biting into hard foods that could chip the ceramic crown.

It is advisable to visit the dentist every 6 months to check for caries, inflammation of the gums or tooth mobility; in the event of any anomaly, such as bleeding gums or hypersensitivity, visit our clinic as soon as possible, so that you can continue to keep your smile.
