How to care for my braces
The decision to get braces is always a bit of a worry. Will it fit? Will it be noticeable? Does it hurt? How will my teeth look?
If you are one of those who have already overcome the above doubts and have decided to take the big leap into orthodontics (congratulations! you will have a fantastic mouth), we at the Clinicas Udemax would like to give you a series of practical tips that will help you to take care of both your teeth (very important) and your braces.
Hygiene of your braces
The first tip may seem obvious, but it is extremely important: take care of your oral hygiene. Why? Very simple, with braces we are very prone to accumulate food debris and dental plaque between the teeth and the braces.
Depending on the type of braces you have, you will have to clean them in one way or another.
If you have removable braces, i.e. the kind you take off and put on, we advise you to take them off every day and clean them thoroughly with a brush.
However, if you wear fixed braces, don’t worry, we know how to keep them spotless.
You will need to brush your teeth after every meal. Especially when you have eaten a lot of sugar.
In addition, to complete your hygiene, we strongly recommend the use of dental floss or interdental brushes and daily rinsing with mouthwash.
What foods can we eat?
We are of the opinion that with orthodontics you should be able to lead a normal life. That is, we don’t want you to start a new diet or restrict too many foods, but you should be careful with hard and/or sticky foods. Avoid biting into bread and try to break it in your hand, avoid sweets and chewing gum.
Also, be aware that coffee, wine, tobacco and cola drinks can discolour the device.
As we always say, the best thing you can do is to use common sense and, if you notice that something is not right, come and see us immediately.
Cheer up, you’ll be smiling beautifully in no time!
