How to look after the health of your mouth at Christmas
With the first half of the Christmas season behind us, the Udemax Group would like to take this opportunity to give you a series of tips that will help you to maintain your health and avoid surprises.
Just like in summer, we change our habits during this time of year. The difference is that, being more concentrated in time, one can forget to keep the mouth and teeth in good condition.
If we add to this an increase in the amount of food and especially sugar-rich foods, the risk of tooth decay, for example, can increase.
We tend to eat unusual foods and dental fractures are very common. We must be careful when eating foods that are too strong, such as hard nougat or foods with shells.
The loss or breakage of dental appliances is also very common.
If you detect any problem or risk, the first thing you should do is visit one of our clinics. If we detect a possible risk, we will solve it and in the case of a more laborious treatment, we will give you guidelines to avoid discomfort during the holidays.
In relation to diet, we must to moderate foods such as :
- Sweets and desserts such as chocolates, nougat and lard. Especially soft sweets that stick easily to the teeth and are more difficult to remove, even with brushing, as it has been proven that a high level of sugars is related to the appearance of caries.
- Soft drinks. These are high in sugars and, due to their composition, promote tooth enamel wear.
- Citrus fruits Their acidity erodes tooth enamel and causes teeth to yellow.
- Hard foods such as nougat or some seafood. The hardness of these foods can damage or fracture our teeth, especially in people who wear dentures, veneers or orthodontics.
And even if you eat out or party late, it’s important to brush your teeth three times a day, especially before going to bed. One of the best ways to do this is to take a dental travel kit with you, including a toothbrush, toothpaste and dental floss.
And, in the event of a serious incident during the coming holidays, at Udemax GROUP we have a dental emergency email in which we guide our patients on how to deal with these emergencies. Our clinics will be open during their normal opening hours, with the exception of the 24th and 31st of December and public holidays, when they will be closed.
Now, with the advice already given, we wish you to enjoy the remaining holidays with caution.
