Annual Congress of Paediatric Dentistry (SEOP)

During the month of May, the Annual Congress of the Spanish Society of Paediatric Dentistry (SEOP) was held at the Palacio de Congresos de Palma and, of course, the entire Udemax Group team of paediatric dentists and hygienists attended to keep up to date with all the latest news.

Dr. Cristina Martínez-Almoyna has told us her impressions of the Congress and everything that happened at #SEOP2018.

As with all dental specialities, all paediatric dentistry congresses have a scientific programme with various lectures in different rooms and practical workshops.

This year, four main topics were discussed: caries in paediatric patients, treatment of anxiety or so-called difficult patients, orthodontics with its invisible variant for children and the use of new metal-free dental crowns.

However, the highlight of the congress was undoubtedly the preformed zirconium crowns . Nu-smile for children’s patients, which will finally be marketed in Spain, are necessary because milk teeth are destroyed by caries much more aggressively than adult teeth and, on many occasions, the dental crown is seriously affected.

The material is something new, as they used to be made of stainless steel and were much more visually striking.

At Clinicas Udemax we were already working with these crowns more than four years ago when we discovered them at the American Dental Society (ADA) Congress and we were able to buy them and bring them here.

Another point that we really enjoyed was the behavioural management of patients with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). There we were given a series of guidelines to get used to visiting a dental clinic. We were able to learn how to create comfortable spaces for them and the evolution of their behaviour. This type of patient is the great unknown. They need more explanations, more tranquillity and more patience. It will be of great help to us to be able to take a detailed clinical history of the patient about what they like, what bothers them, what worries them, and not only about their oral health but also about their character.

At the Clinicas Udemax our special patients are all those people who, due to the illness they suffer from, the treatment they receive or the physical or mental disability they have, need special dental treatment and must receive personalised treatment adapted to their needs. We first carry out an assessment in order to establish the correct treatment plan.

It was, without a doubt, a congress where we had fun, learned and, above all, grew as professionals.
